An attractive mid-grade example of this scarce and somewhat underrated date. Rated an R-4 in Lawrence’s text on the series, and based upon my experience with the series all of that - more so if anywhere near original. As noted in Lawrence, the strike on this issue is typically shallow, and this coin displays this a bit on Liberty’s forelock, which is a bit flat below LIBERTY. On balance made up by the nice color and surfaces, with the classic reddish-gray toning that you hope to see on an uncleaned example. 30 at PCGS in the grade, 12 at NGC, versus 5 at CAC. Zero in the new CACG holder; per their policy this will cross at the same grade if resubmitted.
