Very close to AU with remaining obvious luster in the protected areas among the lettering. Snow-7, FS-01-1858-302, Overdate and Doubled Die Obverse, the 'flag' of the underlying '1' being obvious on this example, the corner of the '7' being light as usual however quite visible. Bold doubling on UNITED and the eagle's eye, shown in the enlarged images. My regrets I could not pick up the overdate feature well enough on my first attempt at imagery - I may try again a bit later. Very scarce to rare. The NGC Census shows 9 coins between XF-40 and MS-63. If you dig deep enough in the PCGS Pop report, you will find that they apparently have 1 XF-45, 2 AU-55 and 2 AU-58 certed; for some reason, CoinFacts does not bother to list S-7. Tough to price as few comps, naturally. An NGC AU-55 sold at $1,300 at Heritage back in 2013, but that result is a bit stale. More recently an unattributed PCGS MS-60 sold at $2,995 (Jan. 2022), and a Details AU coins sold at $950 Sept, 2021 - this should naturally be in between somewhere. I have 'aimed high' and included a Make an Offer option. I will guarantee the attribution and grade should the new owner choose to submit this to PCGS or NGC under their Variety Plus service (contact me post-sale for the details of my extended return privilege for certification).
