Silver dollar coinage at the San Francisco Mint in 1884 totaled 3.2 million pieces; approximately half of the previous year's mintage and the lowest production total of S-mint Morgan dollars since the inception of the series. Heavily circulated survivors are plentiful and bring only a modest premium in low grades. However; in Mint State; the 1884-S dollar is challenging to locate; and it is decidedly rare in MS63 and finer condition. This Plus-graded specimen exhibits impressive cartwheel luster beneath a delicate champagne hue joined by vibrant amber highlights. A few faint; barely perceptible grazes in the left obverse field appear to be all that prevent an MS64 designation. Certainly one of; if not the the best specimens for this issue and grade. CAC certified.
